Nice, huh! Andrew Francis’s work.
Chain of Life: The artistry of Mokuhanzome Kimono
—
In February of this year, I had a chance to screen Chain of Life: The artistry of Mokuhanzome Kimono, a directorial debut by Kaori Ishii. It turned out to be one of the most pleasant movie I’ve ever gone to see.
The movie follows Yoshikazu Fujimoto as he lays kimono pattern using Mokuhanzome technique. The technique is beautiful, but so is the movie itself. The pace parallels with the message of Mokuhanzome.
I encourage you to borrow the DVD from your nearest Japanese Centre library, or maybe your local libraries have it too — try it! The DVD also contains the making of the movie, which shows how they shot some of the awesome scenes.
OR if you like, you can order the DVD from Ms. Ishii’s production company (like I did), Guli Creates. If you translate the webpage, you’ll find that the “About Us” link is the second link under the turtle. Every time I need some inspiration, I play this DVD. So good, you guys.
p.s.: Ms. Ishii told me that 2 years after they released the movie, the son who was following Mr. Fujimoto footsteps, passed away from cancer. Fortunately, because of the movie, local people have gone up to help out Mr. Fujimoto.
Hey, I make stuff now!

Did I ever mentioned I make stuff now? YEP!
Design*Sponge (thanks Grace and Kate!) kindly covered it yesterday, and since then I’ve been getting a pretty sweet steady stream of orders in. pretty. sweet.
They’re inspired by my obsession of the wabi-sabi and scandinavian lifestyle, but mostly inspired by my Indonesian background/upbringing.
Anyway, it’s a’ight. But checkithere if you’re even the slightest curious.
